Matthews took over as principal of the school in February and has continued the awards breakfast tradition started by Santina Haldeman, the current principal of Glassboro High School and former acting principal of Glassboro Intermediate School. Matthews came to Glassboro Intermediate School (grades 7 to 8) from Thomas E. Bowe School (grades 4 to 6), where he was principal. He told parents and students that he was proud to see former Bowe students continuing to succeed at the Intermediate School.
Glassboro School District Superintendent Mark J. Silverstein, MBA, Ed.D. attended the awards breakfast and afterwards remarked, “It was rewarding to see the number of students being honored and the level of parent participation. It was obvious to me how warmly Principal Matthews was received as the GIS principal. The relationships that he established as Bowe principal were evident as he recognized the students being honored.”
