Glassboro Junior Receives Leadership Award and Scholarship Offer
Widener University and WCAU-TV/NBC 10 recognized Glassboro High School junior Haley Kopecky at the 2012 Widener University High School Leadership Awards Breakfast on February 19 at the National Constitution Center. Kopecky was one of only 93 juniors across Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania who were selected for this honor. Students were recognized for their overall character and hard work in the classroom and community. As part of the award, Kopecky received a $20,000 scholarship offer from Widener Universtiy.
Glassboro Guidance Counselor Marybeth Ragozzino notes, “Haley is an open-minded young woman who is the champion and voice for the underdog. Through her selfless actions, Haley has earned the utmost respect from her peers and the faculty and administration at Glassboro High School.”
An empathetic nature seems ingrained in Kopecky. When asked about the philosophy that guides her actions, Kopecky said that she simply couldn’t envision being any other way. “When you see somebody hurting, how can you just walk on by?” she asked.
At Glassboro High School, Kopecky plays the violin in the Orchestra, participates in Marching Band, displays a talent for art and takes college prep courses. She is contemplating a career as a pediatric assistant or nurse.
