DOROTHY L. BULLOCK SCHOOL DONATES $1610 CHECK TO SJ CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS

GLASSBORO- Dorothy L. Bullock students and Principal Joe DePalma presented the South Jersey Chapter of the Red Cross with a check for $1610 on November 20 to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. The students, staff and parents donated money as part of a week-long collection for the cause.

From children who donated coins from their allowance to adults who donated $100 or more, everyone was eager to help their NJ neighbors in need. Students wore blue attire or appropriate beachwear, including sunglasses and shirts with beach themes, during the collection period. They did so in recognition of the beach areas which were struck so hard during this hurricane.

Joyce L. Skradzinski, Executive Director of the SJ Chapter of the American Red Cross, told the students, “My heart goes out to you. This shows one thing, it doesn’t matter what size you are, you can still help others.” Skradzinski encouraged students to consider becoming an American Red Cross volunteer when they grow older. Joseph G. Blazejewski, Major Gift Officer of the South Jersey Region of the American Red Cross, joined Skradzinski in accepting the donation and providing Dorothy L. Bullock School with a certificate of thanks. Students presenting the check also received a special American Red Cross pin.

DePalma was surprised that the school was able to raise such a generous donation in a short period of time, but he wasn’t at all surprised that the Dorothy L. Bullock School “family” stepped up to the cause.

There are so many reasons why I love Glassboro and especially the Dorothy L Bullock School, but the one that stands out in my mind is the love, care and support we receive from our families. In the past, our students have supported relief efforts during Katrina and the Tsunami as well as helping several of our own who lost their lives struggling with illnesses. Our staff has contributed more than ten thousand dollars over my tenure here to support worthy, local and long distance causes,” said DePalma.
