Designed to offer students a sound look into the world of  literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills, this course is intended to help struggling readers and writers excel in a changing world, as well as refine essential skills neeeded to succeed in high school and beyond.  Specifically, the Read 180 curriculum is designed to enable students by letting them choose what they read, write on topics that are important to them, and participate in whole and small group instruction where they learn a variety of useful English tools.  The course is organized into three parts as follows:
 
Whole Group Instruction: at the beginning of each class, teacher led instruction guides students through different topics such as writing, reading, or grammar.
 
Small Group Instruction: students are instructed in smaller groups where the teacher can instruct on a smaller, more personal level. 
 
Software Instruction: students work at the computer on various vocabulary and reading exercises.
 
Library: students select from a variety of books and read several books throughout the semester.
