Honors Chemistry bottles

Welcome to Honors Chemistry, The study of Matter and its Change.  I look forward to a semester of exploration and learning. We will perform a substantial number of laboratory experiments that offer you a chance to see and do what it is we learn about during the course.

I believe that we should establish a few procedures to ensure that we have a safe and productive environment to work in.

1 Please bring the following materials to class everyday:

a. Note book

b. Text book

c. Pen/pencil

d. Calculator

2 Rules for conduct in class and lab:

a. Be in your seat before the bell rings. Late=detention

b. Show respect for each other. The Golden rule applies here.

c. Disruptive/unsafe behavior is not tolerated. You will be removed from lab and receive a “0”

d. Regulations require that you have goggles on properly at all times. Remove them and you remove yourself from the lab and receive a “0”.

e. Homework in the form of worksheets, questions from the book or lab is assigned daily and is due the next day, even if I do not specifically ask for it.

3 Grading

a. Tests = 100 points

b. Quizzes = 10 points

c. Labs = 10 points

d. Homework = 5 points

e. Projects = 100 points

(Late work will receive partial credit)

4 Absences

a. It is the students responsibility to get all back work and assignments. Labs are very difficult to make-up. I drop 1 low grade/ marking period.  After that you will need to do a substitute assignment. If I am absent an assignment will be given, collected and recorded.

5.The lab work allows for practice and learning and is an alternative to written work and tests. Labs should be looked at in that light, a chance to DO chemistry.

Working cooperatively we can make this a meaningful experience for you and everybody else in class. Everyone can be successful in this class.

Grading

Tests - 100 pts
Labs - 10 pts
groupwork - 5 pts
Quizzes - 5 pts
          Homework - 5 pts
Projects count the same as a test - 100 pts
